Types of Alerts
In the event of an emergency, Union County Emergency Services can identify the affected area and send a message describing the situation and may recommend any protective actions residents should take. When directed, the Emergency Notification system will automatically call all land-line and opt-in telephone numbers within the geographic area and deliver the recorded message once a voice is heard. If a phone line is busy, the system will attempt to redial the number up to three times. If an answering machine or voicemail answers the call, the emergency message will be left on the device.
Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) and Emergency Alert System (EAS) messages may also be issued during significant emergencies or imminent threats to public safety. These alerts are designed to provide timely emergency information and protective action instructions through cellular devices, television, and radio broadcasts. Some of the many uses of the system include:
- Emergency Evacuations
- Wildfire
- Flood
- Natural Disaster Alerts
- Missing Child Alerts
- Hazardous Material Leaks
- Neighborhood Emergency Incidents
Please keep in mind that this system is an important enhancement to our efforts to share emergency information with Union County residents; however, registration does not guarantee notification of every specific event. Residents are still encouraged to monitor local news and radio stations and visit the county website for updated information during emergencies or community crises.
