The Union County Board of Commissioners unanimously passed a resolution supporting Operation Green Light for Veterans during its regularly scheduled meeting earlier this week. Through Veterans Day, November 11, 2026, various county buildings will be illuminated in green to honor veterans and raise awareness of the resources available to veterans and their families at the county, state and federal levels.
Operation Green Light for Veterans is a national initiative that recognizes military veterans and highlights the unique challenges they may face, particularly during the transition from military to civilian life.
In addition to illuminating buildings on the Union County campus in La Grande, residents, businesses and organizations are encouraged to participate by displaying a green light in a window or elsewhere at their homes or businesses. This simple gesture demonstrates that veterans are seen, valued and supported by their communities.
Green light bulbs are available through local businesses and online retailers. Union County also has a limited supply available at no cost. Interested residents may pick up a bulb at the County Administrative Office, 1106 K Avenue in La Grande, during regular business hours. Green light bulbs are also available through County Veterans Services Officer Brian Blais at the Center for Human Development, located at 2301 Cove Avenue in La Grande.
Union County is proud to join communities across the nation in recognizing the service and sacrifices of military veterans. Brian Blais assists veterans and their dependents with accessing available benefits, including health care, disability and compensation services. He can be reached at the Center for Human Development at 541-962-8842 or bblais@chdinc.org.
