The Joint Emergency Operations Center, which includes the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office, Umatilla County Emergency Management, Union County Sheriff’s Office, Union County Emergency Management, and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR), remains actively engaged with Incident Management Team 6 regarding the Hagen Fire.
Highway 204 will remain closed and current evacuation levels stay in place to ensure the safety of both the public and firefighters. The Joint Emergency Operations Center and Fire IMT 6 have requested that the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) maintain the closure of Highway 204 at this time.
Although a reopening of Highway 204 was tentatively scheduled for today at 4:00 p.m., fire activity is increasing this afternoon and challenging weather conditions persist. Additionally, both Sheriff’s Offices have responded to an increase in unauthorized motorists entering areas near the fire perimeter to observe fire activity. This behavior is unlawful on closed roads and presents significant issues for safety and continued fire operations. Fire resources diverted to interface with the public are unable to actively engage in fighting the fire, including structure protection if that becomes necessary.
Emergency managers are working closely with fire managers and will reopen the highway when it becomes safe to do so. Please avoid the fire area, including access by alternate routes. We remain committed to the safety of both the public and the fire crews.
