Union County Volunteer Opportunities

 

Amateur Radio Emergency Service Operators

 

Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) operators are licensed amateur radio volunteers who provide emergency communications support during disasters and other emergencies in Union County. Volunteers help maintain critical communication links when traditional systems may be unavailable.

American Red Cross – Eastern Oregon

 

The American Red Cross Eastern Oregon and Idaho Region serves an area more than 94,000 square miles, including Union, Wallowa, Baker and Malheur counties. Volunteers assist with disaster response, relief and recovery services, health and safety training, support for active military members, veterans, and their families, and maintaining a stable blood supply for patients in need.

Emergency Support Volunteers

 

Union County welcomes community members who are interested in assisting during emergencies, disasters, or other community response efforts. Volunteer opportunities may include a variety of assistance roles, such as distributing information or supplies, assisting with logistics, supporting communications, or providing other community support services during incidents.  Individuals interested in being contacted about volunteer opportunities for future emergency events may email ucem@union-county.org.

Search and Rescue

Union County Search and Rescue (SAR) is an all-volunteer organization that supports the Union County Sheriff’s Office. SAR volunteers assist with search and rescue operations, emergency response, and public education related to outdoor safety, preparedness, and what to do when lost.

Volunteer Firefighter

Volunteer firefighters assist local fire departments during fire response, medical calls, and other emergencies. Volunteers receive training and play an important role in protecting and serving their local communities.

Right Track Resource Center

Located in La Grande, the Right Track Resource Center provides services as a day-use resource center and seasonal winter overnight shelter. Volunteers may assist with shelter staffing, meal preparation and service, donations, and other support services for individuals in need.
