Union County Treasurer Vacancy

Union County Treasurer Donna Marshall has announced her plans to retire at the end of March, 2021.  This retirement will leave a vacancy in the elected position of County Treasurer.  In accordance with Oregon Revised Statutes, the Union County Board of Commissioners will need to appoint a person to fill the vacancy.  The individual appointed will serve until the next available general election which will occur in 2022, at which time an election will be held for a four-year term.

The duties of the County Treasurer are listed in ORS 208.  A summary of those duties is as follows: to receive all moneys due and accruing to the county and disburse the same on proper orders; allocation of interest among funds; monthly financial statement of funds received; distribution of collected taxes to taxing districts; issuance of refunds under proper orders and other related duties.

The County Treasurer position is a compensated position considered half-time (approximately 20 hours per week) which receives standard county benefits.  To be eligible for appointment to the position an individual must be at least 18 years of age and have resided in Union County for at least one year.  Desirable qualifications include a background in accounting; ability to work effectively with county departments, special districts and constituents; a high degree of accuracy in duties performed; the ability to perform functions within required timeline; and a willingness to seek election to the position.
