Union County Commissioner Position 3
Commissioner Jake Seavert, is a second generation Union County resident, raised in La Grande on a small hobby farm. He attended Island City Elementary School and graduated from La Grande High School. After high school, Jake briefly studied at the University of Idaho before returning to Eastern Oregon University, where he earned a bachelor of Science in Agricultural Business Management through the Oregon State University program. It was during this time that he met his wife, Kimberly, and they married in 2004.
Agriculture has always been a cornerstone of Jake’s life. He began working at the OSU Agricultural Experiment Station in Union, later transitioning into sales and marketing for various livestock products. Most recently, Jake managed the successful opening of a second location for a livestock supply store. His active membership in the Oregon Cattlemen’s Association has deepened his understanding of the regulations and policies affecting rural Oregon’s agriculture and natural resources. These experiences have shown him how such changes impact local economies. Currently, Jake serves as President of the Union County Cattlemen’s Association and Co-Chair of the state’s Animal Health and ID Committee. He also operates a small cattle ranch alongside his wife, Kim, and their two sons.
Jake’s commitment to youth and community is evident through his involvement with 4-H and FFA. He supports young people at events like the Eastern Oregon Livestock Show and the Union County Fair, where he frequently volunteers his time.
When not ranching or working, Jake enjoys spending time with his family outdoors, camping, hunting, and fishing. His deep roots in Union County, combined with his leadership and agricultural expertise, reflect his dedication to preserving the region’s unique traditions and values.
