The Union County Board of Commissioners are accepting applications from qualified volunteers interested in serving on the Mt. Emily Recreation Area Motorized and Non-Motorized Advisory Committees. The purpose of these committees is to represent the interests of the public related to development, operations and maintenance of MERA by making recommendations to the Commissioners with regards to motorized and non-motorized usage.

Open positions include representations for one Class I ATV’s “4-wheeler” member and one Class III ATV member for the motorized committee.  Open positions on the non-motorized committee include two members of the general public, a hiker, and an equestrian representative.   Interested citizens residing in Union County are invited to submit a completed Advisory Committee Application by December 31, 2019.

Applications may be submitted to the Union County Administrative Office at 1106 K Avenue, La Grande.

Mt. Emily Recreation Area Advisory Committee in need of Members

The Mt. Emily Recreation Area (MERA) Advisory Committee has positions expiring and needing to be filled. The advisory committee meets approximately 4 times a year to discuss and help guide the management of the MERA and provide recommendations to the Union County Board of Commissioners who make all final decision.

Positions to be filled:

1. Class I ATV’s/4-wheelers
2. Class IV ATV’s/Side-by-sides
3. Motorized General Public
4. Mountain Bicyclist
5. Grande Ronde Bowman/Archery
6. Non-motorized General Public

At the last MERA Advisory Committee meeting the topic of winter recreation was discussed. A meeting has been set for March 8, 2016 at 7pm in the Joseph Building Annex, large conference room to discuss the topic further. The intent of the March 8th meeting is to establish a working group from the general public to address current issues and future management concerning winter recreation on MERA. The working group will report back to the MERA Advisory Committee once recommendations have been formulated. Attend this meeting if you are interested in the management of Winter Recreation on MERA.

The Union County Public Works Department is accepting bids on the replacement of the Thief Valley dock system at Thief Valley Reservoir, Union County, Oregon.
